Curtain falls on SA's involvement in DRC

JOHANNESBURG - The SANDF officially ended its deployment to the DRC.

Soldiers are returning home from what began as a peacekeeping mission.

But it ended with a bloody confrontation that cost lives.

South Africa's involvement in the DRC goes back a long way.

Former President Nelson Mandela first intervened in 1997 with a peace summit on the SAS Outeniqua.

Defence analyst Ricardo Teixeira said the soldiers arrived in Uganda on Wednesday.
